
At Vance & Whitley, Kay Cotter focuses on wills, guardianships, estate planning and public education law. She is a disability law advocate and a consultant for students and has been court-appointed to represent children and the elderly in contested litigation.
Ms. Cotter is an experienced problem solver. She has a Lifetime Teacher’s Certificate and has taught Spanish and Portuguese on the secondary level. Ms. Cotter's practical skills have assisted her while guiding parents through the legal issues in ARDs and other problematic parent/school relationships. Kay Cotter is a detailer and is well-equipped at thinking through the collateral effects of real estate and corporate documents. She has worked with our financial tracing experts, ferreting out assets our adversaries thought were well-hidden. Prior to joining Lisa Vance in 2005, Ms. Cotter had her own practice specializing in public disabilities in school law, working also as a disability consultant.
In addition to her school expertise, Ms. Cotter has a unique insight into real estate law due to her having been licensed to sell real estate by the Texas Real Estate Commission.
Ms. Cotter graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1988 and is licensed in all state courts and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
